If you're like most Texans, chances are you drive frequently. Whether you're traveling to or from work, picking up a child from daycare or simply out running errands, Texas roadways are busy, bustling and filled with people going places. Knowing the most dangerous time to drive and making small changes in your routine can impact your car insurance in Texas by reducing the chances you'll be involved in an accident.

The Most Dangerous Hours During the Day
Researchers found between the hours of 5 and 7 pm to be the most dangerous time of the day to drive. Not only are there more vehicles on the road, but there are more stop and go traffic patterns and more chances for collisions. Many people are leaving work and are anxious to get home, most are tired from the day and less likely to pay attention. Even during the summer when the sun is still high in the sky between 5-7 pm, driving conditions are more difficult. It has less to do with the amount of traffic on the road and more to do with the varied speeds rush hour traffic creates.

The Most Dangerous Day of the Week
According to the National Traffic Highway Association, the most dangerous day of the week to drive is Saturday. This may have to do with distraction from cell phone use or tending to children. In other cases, it could be the increase in seniors on the roads or simply leftover party goers from the evening before that are still feeling the effects of alcohol, yet are not intoxicated. Whatever the reason, there are more accidents on Saturday mornings than during weekday rush hour.

Staying Accident Free Can Reduce Your Texas Car Insurance Premium
now that you are aware of the most dangerous times to drive, how can this information help you save money on car insurance? Simple. Those errands you need to do, how about pushing them back until Sunday? Your commute home from work- leave a little earlier and avoid dangers on the roads. These are small changes that may not impact your day-to-day life, but could pay off big in terms of a monthly car insurance premium. Remember, one of the key determinants of car insurance rates is your driving record. And of course, the fewer accidents you have, the less you will pay.

Driving defensively will help you avoid accidents, stay safe and keep your Texas Car Insurance rates low. But even the most defensive drivers can't avoid every accident and there may be times- through no fault of your own- you are part of an altercation. Familiarizing yourself with the most dangerous time to drive and avoiding using the roads during these times can significantly reduce the chances you will be involved in an accident. And that's music to everyone's ears- especially your car insurance company.
